This afternoon, Laura and I got to place roses in the Family Circle Garden. The Family Circle Garden takes the form of several huge stars that are filled with roses dedicated to someone impacted by organ donation, whether a donor, living donor, donor family, recipient or someone working in the field of donation and transplant...
I placed roses for Chase, Chloe and Kari - and my Laura placed one for me... I didn't know about it and it was a beautiful surprise... Each rose is placed in a little floral tube with a "Donate Life" dedication tag attached to the tube. This is a picture of what the dedication tubes look like with Kari's message.
Chase's dedication read - In memory of Chase Coleman: You loved life, and you loved people. You helped them when you were here, and after you left. Your spirit and your smile will live forever.
Chloe's dedication read - In memory of Chloe: Your open heartedness gave me a future. Today, and always, I honor you with 14 roses to represent your 14 years of life. Love, Melissa - Your heart recipient.
Kari's dedication read - In memory of Kari Westberg: Dear Kari, you've given me a life I've never imagined. I've hugged your family and friends. I'll feel your smile always. Love, Steve
And Laura's little suprise dedication to me read - In honor of Steve Ferkau: Steve - you're everyone's hero - especially mine. Love you to bits and pieces, Laura (I love her to bits and pieces too...)
The pictures surrounding this post are of Laura and me assembling the dedication roses - then I got to place all of the roses into the family circle garden. Kari's rose, one of Chloe's and my rose are in the star at the very front of the float. Chase and Chloe's roses make up almost an entire point on the front-left side of the float...
And finally - here is a video of our dedications and placing the roses on the float...
