I want to share the following letter I received...
I am a 16 yr heart transplant survivor here in Texas. I corresponded with a wonderful young man Andrew Wilson of England for 4 yrs prior to his death July 7th, 2005 there in London. Andrew was one of the very first "Domino Transplant" recipients in the UK back in 1987. Andrew and I became quite close via our emails and phone calls, even though we had never met face-to-face.
I created some Organ Donor tee-shirts with my own personal sketch and mailed them too many of my heart transplant pals throughout this part of the world. Andrew's parents laid him to rest in that very tee-shirt.
The t-shirt reads...
I received the following words from Andrew’s parents.
We have never told you about Andrews funeral service, it was a complete tribute to Andrews life. All his friends were mentioned and there was a special tribute to you Bob from the vicar on how much you meant to Andrew. We had three of his songs sung by two young female singers, and they went down very well. At the end of the service everybody in church applauded Andrew as he left the church. We decided it was fitting for Andrew to go to God wearing the t-shirt you sent him, with the praying child so they would all see it in HEAVEN.
I had sent a poem which I loved (unknown writer) to Andrew several months prior to his death and without knowledge of the origin of this poem, his parents had it inscribed onto his beautiful headstone.
Everybody that has read the poem has commented on how fitting the verse was. Still can't believe that it originally came from you, Bob.
The poem…
And No One Has The Power
To Tell What Time The Hands Will Stop
At Late Or Early Hour
Now Is The Only Time You Own, Live,
Love, And Toil With Will
Place No Faith In Tomorrow
For The Clock May Then Be Still.
I still dearly miss my young friend Andrew, and I still stay in constant contact with his loving parents Bryan and Sue.
Thank you for reading my story.
